Catharine L. Stevens "Kaye", age 91, a 57-year resident of West Chester, PA died Saturday, December 30, 2017 at home. Kaye was born January 6, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA to Joseph Andrew McMaster and Elizabeth Jamison Hopkins. She attended St. Clement's Elementary School and John W. Hallahan Catholic High School in Philadelphia.
She was a founding member of SS. Simon and Jude Church in Westtown, PA and served the parish, tirelessly, in many capacities, throughout its history.
Kaye married the late Albert J. Stevens on July 27, 1945. As a homemaker and mother, she moved frequently during the first 15 years of her marriage, following her husband's career from Philadelphia to Chicago, IL; Youngstown, NY; Avondale, PA; Chattanooga, TN; Colt's Neck, NJ; Louisville, KY; Pensacola, FL and West Chester, PA. She was adept at transforming each new location into a home for her family and a haven for the relatives and friends who were frequent visitors wherever the family moved. Kaye's life revolved around her children, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her relatives and her church. She had a great pride in her Irish heritage and loved to dance... she will always be fondly remembered dancing at parties, at wedding receptions and wherever music was played and a dance floor was available.
Kaye was preceded in death by her husband, Albert J., and by her beloved son, Thomas M. Stevens. She was also preceded in death by all 4 of her siblings: James J. Hopkins; Dorothy E. Harley; Idamae T. Snee; and Mary C. Keenan, as well as by her granddaughter, Cynthia Stevens Alexander.
She is survived by 5 children: Albert J. Stevens, Jr. and his wife, Yolanda, of Spring, TX; Patricia Ann Stafford and her husband, William, of Elkton, MD; Barbara Jo Wittorf and her husband, Gene, of Conroe, TX; Lorraine Frances Tanner and her husband, Mark, of Cave Creek, AZ; and Maureen Catharine Taylor and her husband, John, of West Chester, PA. Other survivors include 22 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Friday January 5, 2018 9am-10:30am at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382 followed by her Funeral Mass 11am SS.
