Caroline Pepe Kalafut

November 4, 1928 — July 17, 2025

Caroline Pepe Kalafut passed away peacefully at the age of 96 at Glen Mills Assisted Living. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Caroline lived a long, full life rooted in love, creativity, and family.

Born on November 4, 1928, Caroline grew up in the Philadelphia area and later built her home and family life in both Philadelphia and Delaware County, Pennsylvania. On September 15, 1951, Caroline married John Edward Kalafut, with whom she shared many years until his passing. Together, they raised six children: Mary Anne Bayne (S. Colin Bayne), George Joseph Kalafut (Kathy Kalafut), Michael Andrew Kalafut, Alexander Paul Kalafut (Malia Kalafut), and the late John Alexander Kalafut and Sharon Rose Kalafut.

Caroline was the proud grandmother of four: Caitlin Rose Robinson (John Robinson), Andrew Colin Bayne (Nicole Bayne), Diana Bower (Sam Bower), and Cadence Kalafut and adoring great-grandmother of 4 great-grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren will always cherish the memories created at the family gatherings in Caroline's home.

In her early years, Caroline dedicated herself fully to raising her children with unwavering support, which continued through the rest of her life and transcended four generations. Later in life, she returned to her own academic dreams, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts with a minor in English from Penn State University—a personal milestone that reflected her enduring curiosity and commitment to lifelong learning.

Caroline had a vibrant passion for the arts. An avid reader, she was rarely seen without a book in hand. She also found joy and expression through drawing and sketching capturing the quiet moments of daily life. Her love for literature and art inspired those around her and remains part of her enduring legacy.

Perhaps nothing was more important to Caroline than her close-knit bond with her sisters, Loretta and Sara. The three were not only siblings but best friends and lifelong confidantes—always there for one another, through every season of life. Caroline was the middle sister.

Caroline will be remembered for her quiet strength, her intellectual curiosity, her deep affection for her family, and the gentle kindness she extended to all who knew her. She lived with grace and purpose and leaves behind a family and legacy that will carry her spirit forward.
