Bruce Francis Gannett passed away unexpectedly on October 22, 2026, at Paoli Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Bruce was born in Darby, Pennsylvania, and raised in Springfield, Pennsylvania. The son of John D. Gannett and Terese Gannett, he grew up alongside his siblings, Joanne Gannett, John “Jack” Gannett, and David Gannett.
Bruce attended Springfield High School, where he was a member of one of the school’s first men’s lacrosse teams. It was also in Springfield where he met his high school sweetheart, Margaret Flynn, who would become his wife and lifelong partner.
After high school, Bruce attended The Pennsylvania State University, where he earned a degree in business. Following college, he proudly served his country as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the United States Navy, including service aboard the USS Ranger with the WestPac fleet.
After completing his military service, Bruce embarked on a successful business career, ultimately becoming a senior executive at SEI and later at Admiral Staffing Company. His career and military service took the family to many places across the country, including Pensacola, Florida; Memphis, Tennessee; Lemoore, California; Kingston, New York; Raleigh, North Carolina; and Tampa, Florida.
In 1981, Bruce married Margaret Gannett, and together they raised their three children, Jeffrey (Lauren), Timothy, and Molly Ann Gannett. For Bruce, family was always at the center of his life. Some of his happiest memories were made during annual family ski trips to Stowe, Vermont, vacations in Ocean City, New Jersey, travels throughout Europe, and recent visits to Newport, Rhode Island.
Bruce was the ultimate “fixer.” There was seemingly no project he could not tackle, and he was happiest when helping a friend or family member. Whether he was remodeling a home or repairing a car, Bruce could always figure it out. More importantly, he could always be counted on to show up and lend a hand.
He was also an exceptional gift-giver. Bruce had a special ability to find exactly the right gift for someone, reflecting how closely he listened and how deeply he cared for the people he loved.
Perhaps nothing brought Bruce greater joy than his two granddaughters, Taylor and Emma. He was their devoted and enthusiastic sideline cheerleader, always there to support them at their games. Their Friday trips to Freddy’s for burgers and ice cream became a treasured tradition and were among his favorite times with them.
Bruce’s famous Christmas Eve parties were legendary. He played the same musical playlist each year, usually ending the evening with Talking Heads on repeat, and took pride in making the perfect Manhattan for his guests. Many of those memorable parties ended with family and friends happily scattered across couches and floors.
Bruce is survived by Margaret Gannett, his wife of 45 years, whom he described in his 1974 yearbook as his “most prized possession,” affectionately calling her “Pegleg”; his son, Jeffrey Gannett; his daughter, Molly Ann Gannett; his brother, John “Jack” Gannett (Sheri); his granddaughters, Taylor Gannett and Emma Gannett; and his many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Timothy Gannett, his brother, David Gannett, and sister JoAnne Stewart (Rick).
Bruce cared for his family with unmatched strength, generosity, and warmth. His sudden passing has left an irreplaceable void, but the love he gave, the traditions he created, and the countless ways he showed up for others will remain with his family and friends forever.
