Brian F. Colamosca, 83, of Newtown Square, PA, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.
He was born on September 2, 1942, in Philadelphia to Vincent and Frances Colamosca. He grew up in Springfield, Pennsylvania, and was a member St. Francis Parish where he also attended school. He was a proud alumnus of Monsignor Bonner High School and Villanova University, where he earned a BS in Mathematics. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in Systems Engineering Operations Research from The University of Pennsylvania.
Brian worked for American Mutual Insurance Company and Burroughs Corporation during his early career. He then spent 35 years with the Federal Aviation Administration where he was a Technical Program Manager. During his time with the FAA, Brian was instrumental in the development of Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum (RVSM), which allows aircraft to fly closer together vertically, improving airspace capacity and safety. For his outstanding contribution he was presented with the ICAO ANC Laurel Award. He received numerus other awards and commendations, including The Secretary’s Award for Meritorious Achievement Silver Medal presented by the Federal Department of Transportation. After his retirement from the FAA, Brian worked as a consultant for CSSI and Tetra Tech.
Brian was known for his loving devotion to his family and his incredible generosity and kindhearted nature. He was a very humble man who did great things in a quiet way, never wanting to draw attention to himself. No matter who he interacted with, he took the time to make them feel special and important. Brian was a man of great faith. He was a 60-year member of St. Anastasia Parish where he held positions on the parish council and was President of the Home and School Association. He was an usher in his later years, a task he loved and never missed up until his recent illness. His devotion to God was not something reserved for Sunday. It was demonstrated in every act, seen and unseen that he performed. He truly strived to live the Gospel every day.
Brian was very proud of his Irish and Italian heritage. He loved listening to Irish music, like his mother, and watching The Quiet Man. He also loved to visit the Italian South Philadelphia neighborhood, where his father grew up, and yearly trips to Termini’s Bakery. He adored his alma mater, Villanova. He could often be seen in the stands for both basketball and football games, praying out loud for divine intervention on the team’s behalf. Few things put him in a better mood than a Villanova victory! Probably the greatest honor Brian received, in his estimation, was his induction into the Monsignor Bonner Hall of Fame in 2012. He was so proud to call himself a Bonner Grad! He enjoyed gardening and any time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, of whom he was immensely proud.
Brian is survived by his beloved wife of 59 (almost 60) years, Maureen, as well as his four children: Vincent (Maribel) Colamosca, Laura (Robert) Azarian, Eileen Colamosca, and Joseph (Chistina) Colamosca. Brian is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Brian Colamosca, Liam Colamosca, CPT Daniel Azarian, Caitlin Azarian, Emily Azarian, James Colamosca, Matthew Colamosca, and Timothy Colamosca. Additionally, he is survived by his brother Dr. John Colamosca and cousins LTC (Ret.) Thomas (Jessica) Matthews, William Matthews, and John (Catherine) Matthews.
Brian touched so many lives and will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
