Passed away on December 11, 2021. Distinguished historian, teacher, husband, and father. Born Audubon, NJ, son of Francis Reilly and Mary Reilly, nee Jennings. June 8, 1925.  A graduate of West Catholic Boys HS; WW II veteran, serving in the occupation forces in Japan. BA from Villanova University,  Master of Arts in History, University of Pennsylvania, Ph.D. in History, Bryn Mawr College. Professor of History, Villanova University, 1955 to 1992; teaching seminars on the High Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Reformation.  Award-winning author of seven book-length studies of Medieval Spain. Served as president, Pennsylvania Division of the American Association of University Professors; president of the American Catholic Historical Association; and a deacon at Saint Philomena’s Catholic Church, Lansdowne PA and St. Pius X Church in Broomall. He is survived by his wife Margaret Reilly, (nee Stritch), his 8 children, Margaret Felton, Bernard F. Reilly Jr., Maureen Clark, Elizabeth Brune, Steven Reilly, Katherine Reilly, Dennis Reilly, and James Reilly, 19 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  Visitation at St. Pius X. Church Broomall, Friday, December 17th  from 10:00 - 11:00 am followed by Funeral Mass at 11:00. Int. SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
