Bernadette Marian Salopek, lovingly known as Bernie, of Exton, PA, passed away on April 8, 2026, at the age of 72.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late James and Esther (née Morris) McCaffrey.

Bernie was a devoted hospice nurse whose gentle care was marked by a profound commitment to providing comfort, compassion, and support to those in their most vulnerable moments. Her work was not just a profession but a calling—a testament to her selfless nature and deep well of love.

At home, Bernie was the best mother one could imagine and an amazingly loyal friend. She embraced the role she was born to fill, that of a “mom-mom,” a title she wore with pride and immense affection. Her family was her greatest treasure, and through her nurturing spirit, she created a sanctuary of love and warmth.

Bernie found joy in the simple beauties of life. Her favorite places were the serene beaches of Sea Isle City and Stone Harbor, New Jersey, and the charming haven of Cape May. These cherished coastal retreats were where she felt most at peace, surrounded by the soothing sounds of the sea, the welcoming smell of the bay, and the gentle embrace of the nature found throughout the various campgrounds she enjoyed.

A woman of many passions, Bernie delighted in gardening and birding, finding solace and happiness in the outdoors. She was a passionate Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan, her spirited support echoing her vibrant personality and love for her community.

Bernie was the beloved wife of 31 years of Joseph Salopek; the loving mother of Donald Pierce (Danielle Murtaugh), Amanda Rovner (Scott), and Theresa Salopek. She was the caring and devoted “mom-mom” of Gavin, Austin, Carson, Mason, Madsen, Colsen, Brysen, and Kaysen. Bernie is also survived by her sister, Sr. Mary James McCaffrey, I.H.M., as well as her many nieces, nephews, friends, colleagues, as well as all those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Bernie is predeceased by her siblings, Joan Falcone, Mary Giuliano, James McCaffrey, and Kathleen McCaffrey.
