Bernadette M. Ovecka, age 80, of Upper Darby, PA, passed away on October 16, 2023. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Marie (nee Ondrejka) and George J. Ovecka Jr.
Bernadette will be remembered for her kind, supportive and generous spirit, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, especially her family and friends.
Her passion was teaching, she spent many years in Primary education teaching and inspiring young students with creative thinking skills, (St. John of the Cross school in Roslyn, PA). In more recent years, Bernadette spent her free time as an ESL Tutor, teaching English as a second language. Always looking for ways to lend a hand to help others, Bernadette also volunteered for “Call For Action”, a non-profit organization.
One thing Bernadette especially looked forward to each year was spending time at TRINITA with her good friend Teresa; for over 30 years they spent a few weeks each summer volunteering their time to the Family Life Development Program in New Hartford, CT.
Bernadette was the caring sister of Robert J. Ovecka, Elizabeth M. Ovecka Kazmiroski (Michael), Patricia M. Ovecka Mangini, and the late George J. Ovecka III. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation 10:00-11:00 AM on Thursday October 19th at Annunciation BVM Church, 401 Brookline Blvd, Havertown, PA 19083, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Int. Our Lady of Grace Cem.
In lieu of flowers, Bernadette humbly requested any donations be given to MSBT, Missionary Servants of the Blessed Trinity, 3501 Solly Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19136.
