Newtown Square, PA, Formerly of Big Canoe, GA

Barry Lee Kaufman, of Newtown Square, PA and formerly of Big Canoe, GA, died on December 22, 2025, at the age of 81, leaving behind a passion for community that resonates with all who knew him. Born in Fort Monroe, VA, he was the son of the late Alvin Daniel and Bonnie Lee (Kennedy) Kaufman. Barry spent his childhood in Olathe, Kansas, and he was a proud member of the Olathe North Senior High School Class of 1962 and a graduate of Kansas University. He dedicated his professional life to the banking industry, where he was employed as a Foreign Exchange Banker, demonstrating expertise and commitment throughout his career.

He was a man of many interests. Barry’s inquisitive nature spurred a lifelong pursuit of genealogy research. He delved into his family's history to connect dots over centuries of migration from Switzerland to the Midwest. An avid sports enthusiast, Barry enjoyed playing bocce and was recognized as a champion in both golf and putting. His competitive spirit provided joy both on and off the course. Barry's zest for life extended beyond sports. In his younger day he was particularly fond of riding Harley Davidson motorcycles and crossed the United States in pursuit of adventure on the open road.

In addition to his recreational pursuits, Barry was committed to his community. In Georgia, Barry volunteered at Good Samaritan where he screened applicants for acceptance into the free assistance of the clinic. He worked tirelessly to crunch numbers to ensure as many applicants qualified as was possible. In Dunwoody Village, he served as a chief volunteer Fire Warden, reflecting his dedication to safety and service. Barry was a caregiver to many, not the least was his tender care of his wife, Judy.

One of Barry’s greatest pleasures was regular visits to his daughter and son-in-law to attend his grandson’s soccer games. He loved to spend an evening over dinner on the deck with a fresh apple cake for dessert.

Barry was the beloved husband of Judith (Snyder) Kaufman; the loving father of Laura Kaufman of Cold Spring, NY, and the late Andrew Kaufman, who died in 1995. He was the proud and caring grandfather of Orion Frieburghaus of Cold Spring, NY, and is also survived by his brother, Bradford Kaufman, of New Iberia, LA. Barry is predeceased by his brother, Fredrick Kaufman, who died in 2020. He will be missed by his larger, loving family, including his son-in-law, Matthew Frieburghaus, of Cold Spring, NY; his sister-in-law, Nivin MacMillan, of Hobe Sound, FL; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Services for Barry will be held at a later date.
