Barlow David Hynes

May 17, 1942 — October 2, 2025

Downingtown

Barlow David Hynes, known to all simply as David, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025, at the age of 83.

Born in Queens, New York, on May 17, 1942, David spent most of his life in Rockville Centre, Long Island, before moving to Downingtown, Pennsylvania in his later years.

David proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard LST-758, an experience that instilled in him a deep sense of loyalty, discipline, and quiet strength. After his service, he built a distinguished career in ocean cargo insurance, working as an underwriter and manager — a profession that reflected his reliability and steady hand.

Beyond his work, David lived a life rich in simple pleasures and enduring passions. He loved the intricate details of model train sets and could lose hours in a good hobby shop. He found joy in spontaneous drives, a well-made Manhattan, and traveling whenever he could. And when it came to sports, few things matched his lifelong devotion to the New York Rangers.

He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Hynes; his son, Ted Hynes, and daughter-in-law Julie Hynes; and his adored grandchildren — Grant, Luke, and Connor. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Cindy Hynes, whose memory remained close to his heart.

David’s ashes will be interred at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood, 111 Old Country Road, Westbury, New York 11590.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate his life and the countless memories he leaves behind.

Those who knew David will remember his humor, his calm presence, and his ability to make everyone around him feel at ease. His legacy will live on in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love he inspired.
