Barbara Johnson

December 26, 1942 — July 3, 2018

Barbara (Bobbie) Ann Johnson (Nee: Hoban)

of Naples, FL, Bryn Mawr, Pa, and Ocean City, NJ, died on July 3rd in Ocean City, after a seven-year battle with Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD).

Survived by her husband John (Jack) G. Johnson Jr. and six loving daughters: Barbara Lindberger (Donald), Mary Kinka (Michael), Dawn Lord (Patrick), Dottie Foley (Christopher), Janice Luck, and Diane DiCicco (Christian); her 14 grandchildren Michelle and Thomas Kinka; Jack, Grace, Marie and Augustus Lindberger; Molly, Patrick, Maggie and Shane Lord; John and Emma Foley; Gabriella Luck; and Charles John DiCicco. Her brother Augustine Hoban, Jr. (Kathleen) and brothers-in-law Roy Johnson (Lynn); Thomas Johnson (Rosemarie) and sister-in-law, Barbara Garofalo.

Her loving caregivers who are an extension of the family: Traciah, Monique, Lynnda, Bridget, Michelle and Debbie.

Known to most as the Johnson family matriarch, loving wife, mother, "Aunt Bobbie," friend, sister, "nanny," and loyal volunteer, Barbara wore many different hats throughout her life. Her favorite moments were spent with her 14 grandchildren and you'd often see her on the sidelines, at a concert or dance recital cheering them on.

She grew up in Southwest Philadelphia with her three sisters and brother and was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Parish where she attended grade school. She became close with eight neighborhood girls who became her life-long friends and later formed their own sorority, Zeta, Zeta, Zeta "friends forever faithful." She went on to graduate from West Catholic High School and later was inducted into the West Catholic Hall of Fame for loyalty.

She loved to dance and met her husband, Jack, at a Saint Alice's dance.

They were remarkable partners on the dance floor and through their 52 years of marriage.

Barbara was the strong silent strength behind his successful career.

Barbara loved family. Summers were spent in Ocean City, NJ, with her siblings. It was important to her to always have strong ties with her nieces and nephews. Family gatherings were a weekly event and she enjoyed getting the entire crew together for crab fest at her sister's house.

She had an impact on most of the people she came in contact with. Whether it was bringing food to one of her daughter's teams, volunteering for lunch yard duty, or driving a full car of kids to a dance, Barbara was very involved. And when it came to her family, especially her daughters, Barbara was always there. She volunteered at many of their schools and served on the parent's association at St. Margaret's School, Villa Maria Academy and Merion Mercy Academy. She also volunteered at local organizations including: The Drama Guild and the American Heart Association.

Barbara was rooted in tradition and started many that people often looked forward to every year. A few of her favorites were: The Johnson Tree Party, the Hoban Family Reunion, and marching in the SOCIA Ocean City Fourth of July Parade. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends and made everyone feel welcome. Her door was always open to many guests and friends and there was always enough food (and cheese) for one or two more at dinner.

Her 14 grandchildren are her living legacy and she had a special bond with each of them. Celebrating their successes, attending their graduations and birthdays brought her much joy throughout her life.

She loved having them visit.

We are all beyond blessed to have known her and have been able to stand by her side throughout this journey as long as we did. She will be remembered fondly by many.
