Barbara Anne Glynn (née Simpson), formerly of Broomall, PA, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, at the age of 93 at Greenwood House in Ewing, NJ.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late John J Jr. and Anne (née Thomas) Simpson.
Barbara was born with hearing loss, but she didn't let it stop her from living life to the fullest. She was an award winning basketball player at Lower Merion High School. During her younger years she enjoyed travel to places such as Washington, California, and Hawaii. She was talented at sewing, knitting, crochet, and embroidery, and she often made gifts for family and friends.
Barbara worked at Autocar and Vanguard School doing accounting and data entry into some of the first payroll computers in the era of punch cards. She didn't let discrimination due to her hearing loss defeat her and kept pursuing a rewarding career.
In 1978 on a blind date with her brother's widowed neighbor, Barbara met Thomas Glynn. After many dates at the pancake house passing notes to each other because Barbara's hearing loss had become so severe, they wed. Together with Tom's two young children, Thomas and Maureen, they became a happy family.
Barbara touched so many lives with her caring and generous demeanor. She effortlessly took the role of mom to Tommy and Maureen, and cared for them as if she was always their mom. When her brothers were younger, she would give them money to go on dates, and would patiently help type their college papers. If she knew someone needed a meal or a place to enjoy the holidays, she was always welcoming.
Barbara was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Patrick Glynn; the loving mother of Thomas Glynn, Jr. (Chrissy) and Maureen Glynn (Jason LaRoche). She was the cherished and caring grandmother of Athena Glynn, Sophia Rose Glynn, Annalise LaRoche, and Ian LaRoche. Barbara is also survived by her brother, David Simpson, and is predeceased by her brothers, Jack Simpson, Tom Simpson, and William Simpson.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Barbara’s life and legacy beginning with a Visitation on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall, PA, followed by her Funeral Mass commencing at 10:00 AM. Interment thereafter at Calvary Cemetery of West Conshohocken, Villanova, PA.
