Asutosh Mukerji

Asutosh Mukerji, devoted husband and father, passed away peacefully at his home in Springfield, PA on February 19th, 2026.

Asutosh (Asu) was born and raised in Kolkata, India. He was his father’s pride - excelling both in academics and athletics. Asu completed his undergraduate degree in the acclaimed Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay for Chemical Engineering.

In 1969, Asu met and married Maitreyee “Mona” Banarjee. After a year of marriage, Asu decided he wanted to come to America to pursue greener pastures. Mona supported him in his new venture. Asu took a master’s degree in chemical engineering at Drexel University and established a career as a chemical engineer in the pharmaceutical industry in Philadelphia.

In 1974, Asu became a father. Monty is Asu’s pride and joy. He was very proud and happy that his son decided to follow in his footsteps and became an engineer himself.

In 1980, while his wife and son were vacationing in India, he decided to buy a house in Springfield, Pennsylvania - much to the surprise and delight of his wife, Mona. This home is where he and his family eventually settled.

Asu loved to work and took great pride in being an engineer. He also enjoyed a life of structure and routine, having worked in the same business for most of his life. He took the same train and worked in the same building for 30 years. When the company he worked for was sold and moved to a location that required a much lengthier commute, the change was too inconvenient for him that he decided it was time to retire and pursue other ventures.

After retiring, Asu found a new passion in stock trading and investing. He was an avid reader and loved spending time at the library and learning more about investing. He loved sharing his knowledge and has helped friends and family make good investment choices over the years.

Asu played tennis in his spare time. He also enjoyed jogging and brisk walking.

Asu is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Maitreyee “Mona” Mukerji, his son Himadri “Monty” Mukerji and sister Sandhye Banerjee.

Family and friends are invited to Asu’s Visitation from 9:00–11:00 AM and Service at 11 AM on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at The Donohue Funeral Home, 746 Kedron Ave, Morton, PA 19070.
