Arthur J. Kania

Arthur J. “Art” Kania of Tequesta, Florida and Newtown Square, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on July 28, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Angela Paige (nee Volpe). Loving father of Arthur J. Kania, Jr., Kenneth Kania, James D. Kania (Joy), Karen Kania Roland (Gary), Linda Kania, and Steven Kania (Elizabeth). He was a devoted grandfather of 15: Arthur J. “AJ” Kania III, Katherine Elizabeth “Lizzi” Kania, Douglas Kania, Kelly Kania, Alyssa Roland (Rahul Jha), Heather Roland, Jenna Roland, Tyler Roland, James Kania, Jr., Michael Kania (Valerie), Ella Graupner, Kaitlyn Graupner, Luke Kania, Samantha Kania and Skye Kania. Cherished great grandfather of Maya Jha and Jack Jha. Loyal brother of Arlene Kania Hillig. Art was predeceased by his daughter, Sandra McCabe (Anderson) and his brother, Stanley Kania.

Art was a graduate of the University of Scranton (1953) and a proud member of the first graduating class of Villanova University School of Law (1956). He was an accountant and attorney by trade and the Senior Partner of the law firm, Kania, Lindner, Lasak and Feeney. The major portion of his career was devoted to entrepreneurial corporate formation and development, health care services, real estate ventures and the financial services industry. Early in his career, he was cofounder of AID, Inc., which developed and operated 18 hospitals, 21 rehabilitation and extended care facilities and 28 child day-care facilities. Among his numerous business enterprises were Comprehensive Health Systems, Inc., Inter-Media Marketing & Solutions, Inc. and Opt Sciences Corporation. With business associates and partners, Art was involved in multiple real estate investments and ventures in the Tri-State area. In the financial services sector, he served as Director and on the Executive Committee of Continental Bank and Midlantic Bank and later as Director of PNC Bank following the merger of the two. Subsequently, he furthered his interest in banking as the principal founder of First Sterling Bank in the Philadelphia suburbs with expanded bank branches. After several acquisitions and mergers, the bank became part of Bank of America. Art also was the longest serving member of the Board of Directors of Piasecki Aircraft Corp., which was a unique honor of which he was especially proud.

Art was active in numerous charitable and civic affairs being a former member and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Villanova University; a lifetime member of the Board of Consultors of Villanova University School of Law; past Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Trustee Emeritus of the University of Scranton; past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital; Director of the Piasecki Foundation; past member of the Delaware Valley Hospital Council and the Chairman’s Advisory Committee of the Temple University Department of Health Administration; past member of the Executive Board of the Philadelphia Art Museum Associates; a Trustee of the J. Wood Platt Scholarship Trust and a Patriot benefactor of the National Constitution Center. Over his lifetime, Art established countless scholarships and fellowships at Villanova University School of Law and elsewhere demonstrating his devotion, generosity and compassion.

He was a devout Roman Catholic and parishioner of St. Christopher’s in Hobe Sound, Florida and St. Thomas of Villanova. Having taken up golf as a young adult, Art shared his knowledge and passion of the sport with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Overbrook Golf Club, Pine Valley Golf Club, The Bears Club and Jupiter Hills Golf Club, where he frequently played with his famous foursome of friends. His favorite moments were holiday celebrations and spending time with his family at his home in Florida. Art was also an ardent supporter of the Villanova basketball team and its coaches and passed on his love of the Wildcats to each and every family member. His family is forever grateful for the life lessons he taught them and the importance of giving back to others and sharing your time and talents. He will forever be known to them as “The Legend”.

Family and friends are invited to Art’s Viewing 9:00-11:00 AM on Friday, August 7, 2026 at St. Thomas of Villanova Church- Main Campus, 800 E. Lancaster Ave, Villanova, PA 19085, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Villanova, PA.
