Emblem

Anthony “Tony” Bruno, age 78, of Kitty Hawk, NC, formerly of Spring City, PA, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, in 1947, he was the son of the late Anthony and Nella (nee Wilmot) Bruno.

Tony graduated from Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia before attending Villanova University, where he earned a degree in English Literature in 1971. While at Villanova, he served as president of the basketball club when the team made its national championship run, finishing as runners up. He also held a Master’s Certificate from Villanova University.

Tony served honorably in the U.S. Navy. He spent five and a half years flying transport aircraft on and off eight different carriers of the 6th Fleet. After his naval service, he flew corporate aircraft for several years, then spent 28 years with USAirways as a check airman. Over the course of his airline career, he flew a variety of Boeing and Airbus aircraft and retired as an international training captain on the Boeing 767, based in Pittsburgh. An entrepreneur as well, Tony owned and operated a video production company, Video Tone Productions, in Moon Township, PA.

After retiring from the airlines and settling in Chester County with his wife and children, Tony worked for FlightSafety International, training corporate pilots on the Gulfstream 650. In 2018, he received the FAA’s Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award, recognizing more than 50 years of safe flying without incident.

In his later years in Kitty Hawk, Tony continued to give back to aviation. He volunteered as curator of the Dare County Regional Airport Museum and served as a mentor to students in the aviation program at First Flight High School. In addition to his lifelong love of airplanes, he had a passion for English classic cars and model trains.

Tony was the beloved husband of Sheryl Ann Bruno (nee Adkins), with whom he shared 42 years of marriage; the loving father of AJ Bruno (Angela), Eric Bruno, and Mark Bruno (Taylor); and the proud grandfather of Avery Bruno, Evelina Bruno, Nora Bruno, and Lex Bruno. He is also survived by his dear brother, Michael Bruno, and his sister, Joanne Campbell (Hugh), as well as extended family and many friends who will miss him deeply.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from 1:00 to 1:30 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, 610-353-6300. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 PM. Interment will be private.
