Anthony Leo Melvin, Jr.

Anthony “Tony” Melvin Jr. of Newtown Square, PA passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026.

Tony was born in 1952 and raised in the Cardington section of Upper Darby by his late parents Anthony and Anna Melvin (nee Buckley).

Tony was a graduate of Upper Darby High School. He then went on to earn his bachelor’s degree at St. Joseph’s University before dedicating the majority of his professional career at The Wurster Group as an accountant. Tony was also a faithful member of the St. Mary Magdalen parish in Media.

Tony, or “UT” as he was affectionately referred, was known for his quick-witted humor, his deep love for his family, and his overly philanthropic tendencies despite his inability to ever accept anything in return. Unless it was a dessert.

Tony always brought a sense of humor to every situation. There was a very specific, slightly mischievous gleam that would hit his eyes before he inevitably delivered a well-timed one-liner that would perfectly land.

Family always came first for Tony. Whether it was road trips to Maine or just sharing a conversation over a slice from his beloved “Mah Flend,” Tony was always available for those he loved.

When he wasn’t spending time with this family, Tony could often be found on the road with his beloved grand dog, Max, riding shotgun. The drives usually started as sightseeing adventures looking for other dogs, and almost always ended with the two good boys sharing a meal from Wendy’s.

There was not a single thing in the world that made him prouder than being a father to his son Tony. The two enjoyed a special bond that was cultivated over summers in Wildwood, NJ, family meals, and a shared passion for all things Philly sports. Tony also loved his daughter-in-law Robin as though she was his own.

His son was his whole world until the day his granddaughter Gabby arrived. Doting is not a strong enough word to describe the affection and love he had for his granddaughter. “Gabby Gabby Good Girl” stole his heart.

Tony was a loving father, a cherished grandfather, a loyal brother, a trusted friend, and everyone’s favorite uncle.

Tony is survived by his son Anthony Melvin (Robin) of Broomall, as well as his granddaughter Gabriella.

Tony is also survived by his brothers William Melvin (Helen) of Fort Kent, Maine and Joseph Melvin (Donna) of North Cape May as well as his sister Regina Flanigan (Jim) of Broomall. Tony was also a proud uncle to many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

The Visitation will be held Friday, June 12th from 10:00-11:00 AM at Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA followed by his Funeral Mass 11:30 AM at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall, PA.
