Anne Weldon Sims

January 24, 1946 — March 16, 2024

Wayne

Anne Weldon Sims was the daughter of Eleanor Geyelin Sims Casey and Joseph P. Sims Jr.  She grew up and lived outside Philadelphia first in West Mount Airy and then Chestnut Hill. She was educated at the Springside School, Wheaton College, and Boston University. After a short period living and working in northern California, she returned to the Philadelphia area to begin a rich and dedicated professional life working successively at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Sotheby’s, The Wharton Esherick House and Museum, Longwood Gardens, and Chanticleer garden. Her love of and knowledge about antiques and plants and gardens dominated her life. She avidly collected objects and works on paper that filled apartments and then for her final decades her house in Wayne with its small but  impressive garden.

Fundamentally private and reserved even with her closest family and friends Anne gleaned more from others than she disclosed about herself. Deeply kind and considerate, she was particularly close to her aunts and uncles as well as her numerous cousins and her siblings David and Patterson Sims. Her family devotion culminated with her diligent, constant care in their final years of her grandmother Cecily Barnes Geyelin and her parents. In her final year she presciently moved from her house in Wayne to independent living at Dunwoody Village in Newtown Square, where her mother had spent her last years also receiving warm and excellent care.

A memorial gathering will occur in the coming months. Let the family know if you wish to attend by emailing her brother at patterson.sims@icloud.com
