Anne Marie Hayes

Anne Marie Hayes (nee Murphy), age 91, of Morton, PA, passed away on August 6, 2023. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the beloved daughter of Richard and Anna M. Murphy (nee Deeck).

Anne lived an enriched life surrounded by people who loved her immensely. She was the proud mother of Robyn Young, Lesley Theodore, Edward Young, and Karen Sacco. She beamed with delight when talking about any of her 12 grandchildren, but her heart truly belonged to her 15 great-grandchildren, to whom she was lovingly known as Patticake. 

For the last thirty years Anne resided with her daughter, Karen, and son in law Peter.

She worked in secretarial positions before staying home with her children; when her youngest was in school she began working as the Registrar for Williamson Trade School. She quickly became an enthusiastic proponent for this institution, where she continued to work until 2017. She diligently completed her work, never fudging a grade, learning new technology, and going far beyond her job description.

Anne faced hardships in her life that would bring most of us to a halt, yet she persevered. She was fiercely independent, indulgent in her interests, and incredibly thoughtful for her loved ones. 

Throughout her life she enjoyed sewing, traveling, working, socializing, and buying and making gifts for her friends and family. She found fulfillment in retirement through spending time with her great-grandchildren, you could often find her on the floor playing with them, dressing up in costumes, or swinging with them in her backyard. 

Anne’s legacy lives on through everyone she knew. We will miss her always, but we will especially think of her when we enjoy a sweet treat, when we stumble across a wheatie penny, when we find the perfect accessory, and when we persist through life's toughest challenges.
