Anne S. Carlin (nee Shirley), age 83, of Havertown, PA, passed away on December 1, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late George M. and Rita Shirley (nee Davis).
Anne's life was a tapestry of devotion, intelligence, and care, woven together by her unwavering support for family and friends alike. Anne was a person whose very essence radiated kindness. Known for her loving nature, she enveloped those around her in a nurturing embrace, always ready to listen, to uplift, and to encourage. Her considerable intellect was matched only by her passionate spirit, particularly when it came to her interests. A true sports enthusiast, she found joy in watching every sport imaginable on television, with a special fondness for tennis, which held her rapt attention for countless hours.
Much of her heart was dedicated to her family, as she often expressed that the simple moments spent with them were her most cherished memories. The sparkling beach at Ocean City, NJ, became her favorite sanctuary; a place where she could revel in the sun, surf, and the company of her loved ones—creating joy-filled memories that will echo through the years. She was an avid reader and could often be found with a book in her hands on the beach.
Anne was the beloved wife of the late Richard “Scotty” Carlin and James E. Truax; loving mother of Anne Marie Kleinz (Michael), Lynn Marie Covert (Thomas), James E. Truax, Timothy M. Truax (Jennifer), Richard J. Carlin Jr. (Lindsay), and the late John “JT” Truax; caring sister of Kathryn McGinty, Margaret Shirley, Rita Shirley, George Shirley (Kathy Green), Eugene Shirley (Franny), and John Shirley (Kathleen). Anne is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her grandson, Ian Truax.
