Agnes K. Cahir

June 20, 1926 — June 15, 2025

West Chester

Agnes K. Cahir (née Kavanagh), 98, of West Chester, PA and formerly of Mahwah, NJ, passed away on June 15, 2025.

Born in 1926 in Manhattan, NY, she was the daughter of the late James and Agnes (née Ormsby) Kavanagh.

Agnes was the beloved wife of the late John J. Cahir, MD; loving mother of Stephen Cahir (Linda), Margaret Cahir, Nancy Flesch (Robert), and Jim Cahir (Amy); adoring grandmother of Amanda (Mike), Robert, Catie, Clare, Sean, Alexa, and Bridget; proud great-grandmother of Stella, Vivian, and Julia; also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her six siblings: James, Robert, Helen Scudder, Virginia, Julia Horton and Richard.

Agnes graduated from Manhattanville College, and as an RN ventured out to explore the world.

She worked as a nurse in Washington, DC, and later while caring for her four small children, assisted in her husband’s medical office, then worked at Don Bosco High School, and eventually at Betsy Ross School in Mahwah, NJ. She was intrepid and traveled to China with her sister, daughter, and granddaughter.

Agnes used language wonderfully; she sparkled. She was a vibrant young woman, mother, grandmother, avid bridge player, and talented calligrapher. She enjoyed the opera, especially Turandot. The world is a little bit better for her having been here.

Services and interment at later date.
