Teresa A. Carney-Light, 63, passed away Thursday, October 10th, 2019 in Aldan, PA. She was the beloved daughter of the late Robert E. & Mary Ann (nee Scutti) Carney.
Teresa was raised in Morton, Pa, and went to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. After graduating from Cardinal O’Hara (Class of 1973), she attended Temple University for Communications and continued her education at Rosemont College with a BA in Mathematics and a Minor in Philosophy. With her love of Mathematics and Children, she became an educator at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (now named Our Lady of Angels). Teresa was a devoted Catholic school teacher for 18 years. At OLA, Teresa was the Mathematics Curriculum Coordinator, chairperson for the school’s Middle States accreditation committee and a certified Instructional Support Team (IST). Teresa also helped run the Annual Christmas Nativity Play for 17 years.
During her time at OLA, she continued her education and received her Master’s degree in Education/Curriculum and Instruction with a Specialization in Mathematics Education (c.o. 2012) Teresa didn’t want to stop there and was determined to receive her doctoral degree. In 2014, she finished her Educational Specialist Doctoral Degree at the University of Phoenix School. Then, she studied Educational Leadership at Drexel University.
Teresa served as Mathematics Specialist for a STEM education program at Widener University and for over 25 years she tutored Mathematics to elementary, high school and college students. It was known that teaching was always Teresa’s life’s passion. While teaching was her passion what was most important in Teresa’s life were her children, Joe, Michael and Laura who meant the world to her.
She is survived by her loving children, Joe, Michael and Laura Light, Grandson Triston, Great-Granddaughter Luna and her 9 siblings.
Family and friends are invited to her Visitation 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church 2130 Franklin Ave. Morton, Pa 19070 on Wednesday October 16, 2019 followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment: SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
