Matthew Aber

September 7, 1973 — February 21, 2021

Matthew M. Aber, 47, of West Chester, PA passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on February 21, 2021 after a brief fight with cancer.

Born in 1973, Matt was the beloved son of Mary Theresa (née Dochakal) and the late James S. Aber.

Matt was the beloved husband of Melanie M. (née Orme) Aber; loving father of Ryan and Austin; dear brother of Ken Aber; devoted uncle of Aaron Aber and Ilyse Aber; dear step-son of Matt Benedetti. Also survived by his in-laws, cousins and extended family and friends.

Matt was raised by his loving parents in Norwood, PA and graduated from Interboro High School in 1992. There, he was a stand-out baseball player, President of his Class and voted “Best All-Around” by his classmates.

Matt met Melanie when they were just high school kids. They were instant friends and later started dating while attending Widener University together. After many years of dating, breaking-up, and dating again, Matt proposed by the big tree in Rockefeller Center in NYC in 2002. They‘ve been very happily married since May of 2004. Theirs was a true love story.

Matt went on to earn his B.S. in Finance from Widener University in 1996. He continued his professional development after college by earning his CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) and FRM (Financial Risk Manager). He worked and made many dear friends at Vanguard, Morgan-Stanley, ING Direct and Barclays. He was respected by all who had the opportunity to work with him.

Matt most recently was an AVP in Finance for Barclays US Consumer Bank, where he was responsible for financial planning and analysis.

He was a member of the Barclays Military Network Team and also supported so many community volunteer initiatives including the Ronald McDonald House, The Boys and Girls Club of Wilmington, The West End Neighborhood House, the Barclays Tax Program, the American Red Cross, and the Easter Seals Annual Day at the Blue Rocks for special needs kids. He enjoyed helping with a program where students from local high schools would come in and do mock interviews to get experience.  These are just a few of the causes close to his heart.

Matt’s first love was coaching his boys and their friends through East Side League, the West Chester Wolfpack, and West Chester Warriors, Upward Basketball, and United Sports flag football.

He was passionately devoted to helping organize and raise money for the ACS Annual Reindeer Romp Fun Run in Havertown for over 20 years. He did this in honor of his Dad who lost his own fight with Lymphoma in April 1991. “Matt Aber’s Family & Friends” was the top supporter of this event for many years in a row. Matt had a true servant heart which was loved and admired by many.
