Josephine "Joan" Flaherty

Josephine Teresa “Joan” Flaherty passed away on November 30, 2020 at the age of 94.

Born in NYC, Joan traveled to Ireland via ship and grew up in Labasheeda, County Clare, with siblings Frank and Mary. She trained at St. Mary’s Nursing School in Dublin. After graduating she returned to NYC via ship where she married her husband, Edward, in 1950. They enjoyed 54 years side by side. Together they raised 6 children: John (Susan), Kevin, Edward, Maureen, Claire, and Brian. They were blessed with 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Her family settled in Astoria and Elmhurst Queens before moving to New Hyde Park, NY.

A deeply religious woman, Joan will always be remembered with a smile and hearty laugh who loved sharing stories about Ireland.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Ss Peter and Paul Church, 1325 Boot Rd, West Chester, PA 19380, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM.  A celebration of her life will be scheduled in the future due to Covid-19 concerns.

In lieu of flowers the family is suggesting a donation may be made to Crystal Run Village (CRUI) at www.crui.org

Burial will be at First Calvary Cemetery, NYC at a later date.
