Herbert W. Coulter III died at Paoli Hospital on July 27, 2021 after a brief, serious illness. He was 73 years old. Herb is survived by his wife Susan (Suzie) Harrigan Coulter.

Herb was born on July 27, 1948 in Baltimore, MD to Herbert and Virginia Coulter, Jr. He lived in many places as the child in a military family, but his favorite place was the Eastern Shore of Maryland where his grandparents lived. He graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with both undergraduate and graduate degrees in chemical engineering. When he and Susan married, they spent the first 6 months of their lives together in South Korea where Herb was on active duty in the United States Army. He served 6 years in the military.

After his honorable discharge, Herb worked as an engineer, manager and executive at General Electric, retiring after 25 years of service. His last assignment was with GE aircraft engines.

Herb had many hobbies, including building model trains, cooking, gardening and photography. He loved to travel and during retirement he and his wife visited 46 states and 70 countries on 6 continents enjoying many different cultures, foods, historical sites, and meeting people from all over the world.

He was a passionate reader and lifelong learner. His many friends, colleagues and nieces and nephews sought him out for advice, ideas, or just great conversation. Time spent with Herb always included great food, great conversation, and great wine.

Herb loved his family. In addition to his wife Suzie, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Catherine Z. Harrigan, sister-in-law Catherine G.
