Gerald McDevitt

Gerald V. McDevitt, 75, of Bala Cynwyd, PA, passed away on June 3, 2020 after a long illness.

Born in Darby, PA in 1944, he was the son of the late John F. McDevitt, Sr. and Helen A. (nee Massey) McDevitt. Gerald was a dedicated alumnus of LaSalle College High School and LaSalle University. He enjoyed sports and attended many major sporting events throughout the country. Gerald was an avid fan and sports historian and statistician for his beloved teams: Notre Dame, Penn State, Big Five basketball, Eagles, and Phillies.

He was known as a “Master of one liners” for his sharp wit and keen sense of humor. Gerald liked to watch Jeopardy and keep up with current news events. He was active in the Men of Malvern Retreat House for over 50 years and a Captain of St. Peter and Paul retreat for 30 years. Gerald was a life-long Parishioner of Saint Matthias Church and lector for many years. He coordinated the St. John’s Hospice casserole program at St. Matthias.

Gerald is survived by his siblings, Helen Marie McDevitt-Smith, Christine Bossone, Eileen McDevitt, SHCJ, John F. McDevitt, Jr. Esq., Jo-Ann McDevitt, and Marian Halligan.

Services and interment are private. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
