Marian Peterson, longtime resident of Westtown Township and more recently of West Chester in Chester County, died on Friday, September 14, 2018 at the age of 94.
She was born in western Michigan and graduated from Coopersville High School.
During WWII she worked in a defense factory where guns were manufactured.
After marrying Ward she became a housewife and raised a daughter, Jocelyn.
Marian and Ward lived in Toledo and Cincinnati, Ohio, before moving to Kuwait and Denmark for three years in each location, where they enjoyed traveling the world when on vacation.
Ultimately, they moved to the Philadelphia area, where they remained after Ward retired.
Marian sewed her entire life, making most of her own clothing and her daughter's clothing until her daughter left for college.
While living in Denmark, Marian became interested in counted cross stitch, a hobby that she pursued for many years after returning to the United States.
In addition, she made numerous quilts but many relatives and friends know her work best from the Christmas stockings she made for them and their children.
Her work was exhibited at the Westminster Presbyterian Church and at the Paoli Memorial Hospital Needlework Shows.
Marian delivered meals for Meals on Wheels for 30 years and volunteered at the Chester County Hospital for 30 years.
She was an active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the United Presbyterian Women and a Deacon and served for several years on the wedding committee.
Marian was predeceased by her husband, Ward, and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jocelyn and David Vitanye, and several nieces and nephews.
After Ward's death she moved into The Hickman in West Chester, where she resided for six years, and then into Bellingham until her death.
Services will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church of West Chester at 2:00 PM on Thursday September 20, 2018 following visitation, also at the church from 1:15-2:00 PM.
